I've always been a minimalist traveler and when preparing for my trip to Ukraine I felt that it was essential to pack ultra light. I wanted to be mobile, blend in and not be a slave to my gear. I'm taking one lense, my Sony 35mm 1.4 G Master. My Sony A 7iii can take 4k video so I'm also bringing the compact Sony ECM-G1 shotgun Mic. For file backup I have two Sandisc Extreme SSDs (1.5 TB), a Microsoft Surface Go2 (with: Adobe Lightroom, photoshop, Davinci Resolve) and an SD card reader. I decided on the Surface Go 2 for 2 reasons; I can run the Adobe edting software that I'm used to and manually transfer my files from SD card to SSD. The other slightly bulky item is my Rotolight Neo 3. I'll be looking to do most of my portraits in natural light but I wanted to bring a portable, versatile lightsource. With my Neo3 and a reflector, I will have options in a lowlight setting. I'm packing a 30,000 mAh battery pack for when there are power outages (there will be) and I need to charge the essentials.
The limitations of my gear will allow me to use my imagination and develop my skills without distraction. For more than a decade I shot with a 50mm prime, using manual focus. Now I'm using a 35mm with a fabulous autofocus system. I love diving in deep, for me it's a great way to learn and feel alive while doing it. I'll do my best to bring you along.
