Finding perspective

Finding perspective

An artist's life isn't all about inspiration. Maintaining a healthy, productive mindset inorder to consistently design and create is essential to our well being.  A healthy mind is prime habitat for inspiration to seed and flourish. Here's a glimpse into a practice that I've recently added to my day that helps me find a positive perspective and stay productive.

In the morning after my coffee, I go for a hike up the canyon. The Klickitat River is steeply cut into basalt and within 10 minutes I'm  looking out over the valley with the river and town below. I love the change in perspective this gives me and have found that moving my body makes it a little easier to move my mind. I stand on a large boulder that rests at the edge of a knoll and turn to the rising sun. With my heart still pounding, I'll close my eyes and listen to the birds sing undisturbed, the breeze blowing through bunch grass and the river flowing. I speak my thankfulness for Life, for Love, for my time on this Earth. Then I turn toward the town, my house and the day ahead and speak my goals. Back down the hill I go, trying not to fall on my ass, with renewed energy and focus. This little practice takes around 20 minutes. Back at my house I do yoga with Kassandra, breakfast and then a day of handmade jewelry.
